How to change ownership of system variable in 2.3

Post by jbilleter » Thu Mar 30, 2017 7:54 pm

PV750
PowerVision 2.3.20007
Windows 10 Pro

How do I disassociate a variable that is owned by a system object? In the newer versions, you can click on the group in the programming tab and uncheck the link box. Is there a way to do something similar in version 2.3?

Thanks.

It can't be done in 2.3. What is it that you need to do to the variable?

I'm supporting a configuration for a customer made and maintained since 2011 on a PV750. Some changes are required and I am needing to move J1939 mapped variables that were "auto created". They are used in various calculation events throughout the configuration. Since I am not able to disassociate them with the J1939 device, I have to take each one individually and create a new variable, delete the system created variable, then find all of the calculations that used that variable and then assign the new one. After that, I can assign the variable to the new J1939 device. It is a long process. I guess I have taken for granted the ability to uncheck the link box in the newer versions of software.

I was able to move an auto created variable for a J1939 parameter to a different group. I moved J1939.Engine.Engine Speed variable that was in J1939 Port Manager group. You must be doing something else.

I don't need to change the group that a variable is in. I want to unlink it from being linked to a system object. For instance, if one were to add a device onto a CAN port and then add a variable in the "J1939 Mapped Variables" section with the "Auto Create" checked...this variable is now attached to the system object (in this case it would be the J1939 device). If I wanted to use that variable and attached it to another J1939 device and remove it from that device, I cannot do that. In newer versions, you can simply uncheck the link box when looking at the group. You cannot do that in version 2.3 and I was wondering if there was another way.

I don't see a way to do it in 2.3.
