Frequency Output / PV780

Post by MuratE » Wed Jan 27, 2016 9:09 am

Hi,

I intend to use frequency output for driving buzzer to creat different sounds at different situations (such as turning signals, warnings etc). Is it possible to drive buzzer with frequency output. Figure1 is from PV780 's installation manual and Figure2 is buzzer 's basic connection schematic in the below picture. I know that, there is digital output (22) on PV780 and I can switch buzzer ON/OFF. But I mention before, I need different tone of sound.

Hello MuratE,

Seems as though it depends on your buzzer. The frequency output on the PV780 is designed to work with a tachometer. If your buzzer can be controlled like a tachometer, your problem is solved. I have some information about the PV780 frequency output that might help.

Sample config: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1151&p=3167&hilit=frequency#p3167

Output measurements: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1022&p=2886&hilit=frequency#p2886

Hello Sara,

Thanks for your reply.

I have a question about connection options. Is it possible to connect same buzzer to Digital Output Pin (22) and Frequency Output Pin (14)? I intend to switch between them according to situtation. For instance;

IN CASE 1, Digital Output Pin is active Frequency Output Pin tri-state (disable)

IN CASE 2, Frequency Output Pin is active Digital Output Pin is tri-state (disable).

Which connection is proper to using both of these two pins? Figure1, connection via diodes (such as 1n4007). Figure2, connection via switch, position1 and position2. I intend to wire according to figure 1 if it is OK. Please correct me if something wrong.

Best regards.

Murat

Hello MuratE,

This is information from one of our engineers:
  • The Frequency output signal has a weak pull-up resistor (2Kohm) to Battery + that switches to ground through a FET. The FET is capable of handling a larger amount of current however the traces on the circuit board are designed for signal level currents and not power. The current limit is 500mA which is enough to drive smaller Piezo buzzers.
Hope this will help with your design decision.
