IX3212 - Output Configuration and Command PDM

Post by tthomas » Sun Apr 03, 2016 12:10 pm

Greetings,

We are in the middle of implementing an IX3212, and having some trouble getting outputs to turn on. This is not being done via a Powervision application, we have implemented the protocol in an IEC-61131 environment from another controller. In any case, communications are working well, and the output configuration messages appear to be taking, an are being confirmed by the IX3212, though we can not get them to actually turn on.

For troubleshooting purposes I have been focused on Channels 8 and 9.

Configuration Message
100) 5154.9 Rx 14EF1E11 8 00 08 FF 00 FC FF 00 00
139) 6190.2 Rx 14EF1E11 8 07 6C 6C 6C 6C 6C 6C 00

expected settings:
15amp
current feedback
No auto Reset
Not in Hbridge Mode
Soft Start Step disabled, 255
Lamp Mode
Loss Comms - Last command
Power On Rest 0% (output off on power up)
Power on Enable - Disabled
Command Type - Loss of CAN feature enabled
Motor Braking - Not in Hbridge mode
LSC - not used
Calibration time - Not used

PDM Response
116) 5634.1 Rx 14EF111E 8 86 08 FF 00 FC FF 00 00

Output Command
922) 16105.0 Rx 14EF1E11 8 05 00 7F 7F 00 00 00 C6

I have a full log if that is helpful, though i believe these to be the important messages. Should this be turning the output on? What else might i look at?

Thank you in advance

Hello tthomas,

I looked through your two configuration messages and compared to your expectations. I see three settings that according to the PDM manual are not as you expect. Unfortunately, the manuals for the PDM are not the greatest. There are a few posts here on the forum, but the one that might be helpful is really about H-Bridge that doesn't help you much.
  • POR Disable = 1. This is not consistent with other Enable/Disable settings.
    LSC Disable = 15
    No Auto Reset = 1
Also, I'm not sure how picky the PDM is about the reserved bytes being set to all ones, but according to the manual, byte 8 in the Configure Output Channels message is reserved and should be set to all ones, yours is set to 0.

Something that many have done to help troubleshoot the CAN messages to the PDM is to get one of the sample configs here for the PV780/450 that use the PowerVision PDM application hook them up and capture the CAN traffic.

If the changes above don't get you going, let us know and we will delve in some more.
