The recommended way is to enable the Digital Output on the Connections tab. You can auto create a variable when the output is enabled or you can select a variable you have created in the Programming tab.

Setting the variable to 1 will turn "ON" the digital output (close to ground)
Setting the variable to 0 will turn "OFF" the digital output (open)
