PV380 MSTD Config - Throttling

Post by Ocelot » Tue Apr 12, 2016 2:56 pm

Hello,

I am concerned there is an issue with the MSTD PV380 configuration bundled with PowerVision 2.8.10366 and potentially with current inventory of PN 78700587.

On an actual PV380 enter into the menu system, Utilities -> OEM -> passcode 3482 -> Throttling -> Throttle -> set to enable

Throttle Type set to Display
Throttle Mode set to Manual

Then exit the menu system, go back to the primary gauge page, and open CANCapture.

Investigating the CAN messages that are coming from the PV380, it appears to be transmitting two TSC1 throttle messages simultaneously, and is causing the engine to be confused as to which RPM value to maintain.

With Throttle = Enable there is a message coming from SA 3 (RPM at 0) and 43 (RPM Varies). With Throttle = Disable there is a message coming from SA 3 only (RPM at 0).

See attached image snapshots from CANCapture.

It appears with the addition of the TSC1 Control Application in the newer versions of PowerVision, located under the Applications tab -> Standard Applications. This App is transmitting a message as well as how the background config of the PV380 works as the PV380 looks like it was developed using a FreeForm CAN message located under Connections -> CANPort 1 -> Numeric Messages instead of the app.

I solved this short term by searching for the TSC1 Enable variable used in the TSC1 Control Application, and set it to 0 (Disabled). It is currently factory defaulted to 1 (Enabled). This variable is located under Programming -> TSC1 Control.

Let me know if there are any recommendations or if there is a PV380 config that is available that is newer and has this issue already addressed.

Hello Ocelot,

Thank you for mentioning this on the forum. You have resolved it in the recommended way.

The engine control app/TSC1 app developer has been hard at work to make improvements. He has merged the apps into one engine control application so it will be uniform across all of the monochrome displays. There are new variables that interface between the configuration and the engine control app to aid with flexibility. The PV380/PV380R2, MPC-10, MPC-20 and MPC-20R2 configurations are being updated so that when the patch 1 release of PowerVision Configuration Studio and the PowerVision Controller configuration tool are released many of the issues you all have reported will be fixed.

This also means that configurations you have developed in earlier versions of PowerVision Configuration Studio may need to be updated by hand. We try to put in upgrades for features and changes we know about, but you all are too imaginative for us to predict every way you might configure a display/controller.

Please continue to report issues as you find them! We appreciate information about situations and use cases we may not have covered.

We have been testing and preparing PowerVision Configuration Studio with a focus on the monochrome displays the last few months. Hopefully we are getting close to a public release sometime near the end of the month, early May.
