add SPN to DTC list and ignore FMI

Post by verschuren » Thu Feb 25, 2016 3:02 pm

Hi,

Is it possible to add a SPN to the DTC list and accept any FMI? So if I receive a SPN 12345 I want to display the DTC, but I don't care about the value of the FMI.

Hello verschuren,

If you look in the DTC Setup in the Library and this is what you are using in your configuration, the fault "list" that will be displayed are determined by the combination of SPN and FMI. In the standard Murphy configs, the Diagnostic Trouble Codes Message is a combination of SPN and FMI descriptions for many of the faults. In this situation, you would need to add all possible FMIs for each SPN. The J1939 standard recommends 32 different FMIs.

PowerVision Configuration Studio also lets you separate the SPN description text from the FMI. On Applications\Diagnostic Messages, under the DM String Setup, there is a check box, Use Standard DM Strings. This lets you enter the SPN fault description separate from the FMI fault description. When the displays sees a fault code that matches either the SPN or the FMI, a record will be added to the DM1 list, the Descriptions will be joined on the display.

Beware of checking the box though, all of the current Diagnostic Trouble Codes will be removed.

With the Standard DM Strings option, the SPN only needs to be added to the config Library once; FMIs only need to be added once. Using this method has a potential to save some configuration memory, if you have many possible SPNs.

Other PowerVision Configuration Studio users might have used other techniques or have other ideas?

Thanks Sara, I will try this out. Sorry for the late response, I didn't had time to attack this problem yet.
