Throw DTC when message not received

Post by bgundermann » Mon Apr 18, 2016 11:01 am

Hello,

I'm looking for the display to throw a DTC when a message isn't received for a certain amount of time. Is this a built in function, or will I have to reset a timer on each message receipt? Either way could I get an example? I'm a relative newbie.

Thanks,
Ben

Hello Ben,

I apologize for not responding sooner, it just seems as though a lot is going on, just when you posted. I will refer you to some posts with information about how to determine when a parameter has stopped being received. It sometimes takes new users a bit to find what information is available.

This is a topic that has information about parameter variable On Change events and expressions, it also has links to topics about the ISVALID() function.

I was hoping to get a nifty little example config for you to use, but I have it about 70% done with little hope to finish it this week. So, I will mention that in the standard configurations that are bundled in PowerVision Configuration Studio there are examples of warning popups that use the different layers. Hopefully you have been to a PowerVision training to get an idea of how to take advantage of the layers shown in the Page Designer. If not, there is a little information in the Page Designer reference manual and the standard configurations can be examples.

If you need to transmit the fault, you will have some additional work. In PowerVision Configuration Studio, these are called "Internal" fault codes. In the 2.8 version for color displays, we are able to use the Transmit Device->DM Mapping with trouble codes defined in the database. Prior versions, it wasn't that simple.

Anyway, welcome to the PowerVision forum! I hope you will find useful information and if you can't find it, just ask, someone will be willing and able to find the answer or a way for you to find it, you know the teaching to fish approach...
