PDM Output delay

Post by Multidrive » Thu Apr 18, 2013 9:19 am

Hi

I'm setting up a PV780 for use on an agricultural tractor and I've also just started to configure a pdm to go with it. I was planning to use the pdm to do the direction indicators and hazzard flashers. The indicators work fine but the hazzards don't - I was only getting one of the indicators working. I've discovered that there is quite a big time delay between each of the outputs switching on and by the time the second output is ready to switch on the timer has already switched them both off again!

Looking further ahead we have applications where we would want to switch several outputs on simultaneously but it looks as if this wouldn't be possible - please could you confirm this and let me know if there's any work around.

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated

The time delay was originally put in the software to prevent too much inrush current, but since it's been a problem in applications like your own, it has since been removed. Which software version does the PDM report? We might just need to get your PDM software updated to remove the delay.

Hi Joe,

Thanks - It's version 35.

I don't think the current will be a problem as in my applications the total simultaneously switched currents still won't exceed 15 amps. I did mention the issue to Murphy UK so hopefully they will be able to update it for me.

jtilley,

I am also using a PDM module in an application and am experiencing a time delay in the outputs of the PDM. It will in no way adversely affect my current application, but I was wondering if there has been an update for this since then.

I also have revision 35 of the PDM.

Ocelot,

The output power on delay is something that's easy for us to change in software, as it's a configurable field. If you have the setup (ECOM + Display software) to reprogram a PDM, we can send you a software update. Otherwise, we'd have to discuss other options. I'll email you with more details.

Ocelot,

If you are using the E2443000 PDM, the default is a 500 ms delay between the activation of consecutive outputs. As Joe said, this is a setting that is easily changed using our display tool in conjunction with the ECOM. The only concern would be activating several high current outputs simultaneously as that could lead to a momentary high inrush. Let me know how you prefer to proceed forward and if we can be of further assistance.
