PV350 J1939 Broadcast Failure

Post by dmsellers » Thu Aug 13, 2015 12:59 pm

PV Version: 2.7.10475
Display: PV350

Hello,

In one of my current projects, I'm using a PV350 to send out J1939 PGN requests for trip and fuel information and to receive various vehicle J1939 messages including the aforementioned trip/fuel info. The CAN bus load on this particular system is nominally 95% with spikes up to 99%, of which I have no control to reduce (customer’s system with numerous nodes and messages). I have noticed that the PV350 will occasionally quit sending the PGN requests and only restart after a power cycle/reboot. The message receives seem to remain functional, however, verified by tracking the vehicle speed. I suspect that the CAN chip is transitioning to “bus off” (transmit) due to the high CAN bus loading. Is there a way I can confirm and/or detect the status of the CAN chip state? Can I programmatically reset the CAN chip if that is indeed the problem?

Thanks,
Dan

Hello Dan,

What information are you using to determine that the PV350 has quit transmitting requests? Is it based on CAN data you have recorded?

Do you have CANCapture or some other tool that will record the CAN data? If so, you can record the traffic so that when you see the PV350 in trouble you have some data. If you send the data to us, we can analyze it to see what is going on.

There is not a way to reset the CAN chip without a power cycle.
