What Will You Build With a PDM?

If you want the most reliable control system for your application, skip traditional fuses and relays and instead integrate the Murphy Intelligent Xpansion™ Power Distribution Module. Paired with a Murphy PowerView® display, the solid-state Murphy IX Series PDM delivers intelligent power where it’s needed on your application with simple control from your display and on-screen diagnostics for easy troubleshooting.

“The PDM provides for simplified harnesses by localizing power to where it’s needed in the machine,” said Osayamen Imade, international application lead for Enovation Controls. “This makes the installation simpler and more cost-effective than miles of wires all over your application.”

All of this is possible due to the PDM’s connection to your applications CAN-based control network, allowing you to use its 20 inputs to control its 12 outputs from your application’s existing CAN wiring. The PDM can also operate in switch mode and use inputs to directly trigger outputs without the need for a separate controller.

With over-current protection, Murphy PDMs can replace existing relay and fuse boxes with more reliable, solid-state switches that can directly drive wiper motors, cooling fans and high-current loads found on marine and industrial applications.

“A standard 24-volt Murphy PDM can draw up to 15 amps per output of current, which is huge for a lot of high-current needs,” said Imade. “It can also do a slow ramp to prevent drawing power too quickly and causing a short circuit.”

The PDM’s rugged design can withstand harsh all-weather environments, and its robust, IP67-rated enclosure is fully sealed and potted to protect against water damage. Connecting the PDM to your equipment is easy with molded DEUTSCH® connectors. After the PDM is connected, a Murphy PowerView display can read it from the CAN bus and see fault conditions and determine whether you have a short-circuit, over-current or an open-circuit condition (additional programing in PowerVision Configuration Studio® required). The PDM also uses FETs to allow outputs to switch on and off with pre-determined current output ratings to make operation and troubleshooting easy for both the user and the technician.

Need to replace one of your application’s PDMs? No problem. Murphy PDMs are hardware addressable and can be easily replaced without reconfiguring or reprograming. Need more I/O? Combine up to four PDMs on a single CAN network to allow up to 48 outputs. The Murphy Intelligent Xpansion™ PDM is the technician-friendly solution to your fuse and relay pains.

Why tangle with more wires when you can choose the solution that makes things easy. Simplify your application with the Murphy Intelligent Xpansion™ PDM and Murphy PowerView displays.
