Bailey Motor Equipment Co. has been selling quality products since 1933. Originally founded as an Automotive-Industrial-Aviation Warehouse Distributor, Bailey Motor Equipment began selling Murphy products in the early 1940s. Early on, their distribution network just covered the Southeastern United States. Bailey Motor Equipment now does business in the Southeast US, Caribbean, Central and South Americas.

We spoke with Bailey Motor Equipment Sales Manager Mike Easterling to learn more about how Bailey Motor Equipment utilizes their extensive knowledge and expertise to provide prompt custom equipment solutions for their customers.

What advantages does your company culture provide the marketplace?

Mike: We have dealt with Murphy for many years and have a unique knowledge base to support our customers with the entire Murphy product line. Each employee has the knowledge, ability and autonomy to make decisions and to execute on what is in the best interest of the customer. Our ability to act quickly and solve time-sensitive challenges is an advantage for our customers. We proactively teach, train and empower our customers to support the product line and be the best they can be.

Having been in business and covered our area for so long, we have developed an extensive distribution network that covers almost every small town. Because we sell through a distribution network, the local farmer can go to their local parts store and pick up the Murphy part they need to have it installed in a quick and timely manner, often within the hour.

What unique needs do your customers have and how do you solve them?

Mike: We cover the Marine, Ag, Pump, Municipality and OEM markets to name a few.

Our shrimp farming customers in South and Central America need a product that can withstand high salt environments. We have PowerCore® solutions that are robust and trustworthy to help customers in those markets.

Many people in our area deal with water use management which creates unique challenges of controlling the supply to avoid overuse and flood control.  Bailey Motor Equipment helps our customers control their usage and movement of water through many of the Murphy PowerCore® products along with the ability for our customers to monitor a site from the comfort of their own truck or office.

What is a competitive advantage you provide your customers?

Mike: What makes us unique in distribution is our knowledge and experience, and even more, our technical service support availability 24/7. Our customers work all days and times of the week, and we are available to support their technical questions during those moments.

What trends do you find important for 2021 and how do you use Murphy products to address those needs?

Mike: The trend for 2021 is automation. What can one person do instead of ten? How can they streamline their company to be more efficient and profitable? One of the ways we provide these solutions to our customers is through remote communications and control.

Why do you tell your customers to use Murphy products?

Mike: We only sell quality products, and Murphy is a manufacturer that is dedicated to quality, and that translates into reliability. Murphy can solve our customers’ unique application challenges.

In addition to their quality, Murphy technical services personnel are available to assist with any technical challenges. Enovation Controls provides both national and international technical knowledge for their customers. You can’t get that service from competing manufacturers.

In rare situations of a defect, Murphy’s warranty support is quick and easy. Murphy allows us to handle most warranty situations locally in the moment, and that is very valuable to the customer.

How does your company conquer complexity by integrating Murphy products into system solutions?

Mike: Through our years of experience, we are able to offer solutions with standard and custom programming of PowerView® Displays and PowerCore® Controllers. We listen to our customers’ application needs and can customize and program a solution that works for them and support the unique installation and setup that they need.

What is the most interesting use of Murphy products you have seen a customer use?

Mike: One of our well-known central Florida theme parks had the challenge of employees forklift racing in the warehouses overnight. They would tip over forklifts and puncture liquid tanks. By the time management heard of it, no one was around to tell the story or who was operating it. They needed a solution to send management an immediate alarm notice of an occurrence. We used a mix of VS2 vibration switch and remote communications to alarm the manager on duty, so they could address it while employees were still around and could be held accountable.

Another interesting use of a Murphy product was with the PowerCore® TEC-10. It was used to control an engine that pumps pig manure from one location to another.
